digital pyrometer towards the end of the firing
The latest kiln firing was started Friday afternoon 04.30.10 and was completed about 15 hours later around 3am the next morning. Our new dual-input digital pyrometer was very helpful during the firing and we discovered that the temperature was off almost 300 degrees when we were previously using our older analog pyrometers. We still rely on our cone packs to truly gauge the temperatures in the kiln, but the digital pyrometer is great for showing us the affects of our stoking, closing dampers, etc. Casey and I did not have any pots in this firing, but Casey's dad, Leonard, had a lot of pots. Carl Block and Nick (one of the clay students from Waxahachie High School) had some pots in the kiln as well. Carl Block and Nick also showed up to help fire the kiln. We have not seen the pots yet, but we are hopeful that most of them turned out. -Jen
